Lady/Sport: Our Purpose

My name is April Leavenworth and I’m a huge sports fan. Growing up, I played soccer, basketball, and ran track. I even dabbled in cheerleading for a season during middle school. Not only were sports an amazing way for me to expel the energy I had, but it also taught me about competition, gracefully losing, and how to keep my body healthy. Sports were my escape from the pressures of school and home, and I know many friends for which sports served the same purpose. Plus, sports just freaking rule.

I wanted to start Lady/Sport to help underprivileged girls in inner city communities get free access to often expensive sports equipment. Encouraging athleticism in girls and young women can help them maintain a healthy life and instill a lifelong desire to work hard and play hard.

I hope you’ll think back to your days on the field, or track, in the pool, or on the court, and remember how important it was to you. Please help by donating  gently used or new equipment–find out how by clicking on the “Donate” page.
